JD McPherson
Over the past 12 years, JD McPherson has released four studio albums and two EPs, blending foundational rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, and r&b with his unique songwriting style. His fifth studio album, "Nite Owls," continues this tradition while incorporating elements of glam, new wave, post-punk, and surf rock. The album features ten dynamic rock ‘n’ roll tracks, including the infectious lead single "Sunshine Getaway," co-written with Jack and Page from the Cactus Blossoms.
"Nite Owls" showcases JD's evolving sound with tracks like the r&b rave-up "I Can’t Go Anywhere With You," the melancholic dream-pop "Just Like Summer," and the Beach Boys-esque "That’s What a Love Song Does to You." Longtime fans will also appreciate familiar styles in songs like "The Rock and Roll Girls" and "Baby Blues."
JD recorded "Nite Owls" at Reliable Recorders in Chicago with a core group of musicians, capturing a live and immediate feel. This album marks a significant step from his last non-seasonal record, "Undivided Heart & Soul," released in 2017.
In addition to his solo work, JD has been touring with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, which has been a transformative experience for him. These collaborations and his recent "Warm Covers 2" EP have helped him through challenging times, including the Covid lockdown.
JD's enthusiasm for music shines through in "Nite Owls," and he is grateful to continue making music for a living.
